a. Location Data
The App collects precise location data (GPS, Bluetooth, LTE/5G, and Wi-Fi signals) in both foreground and background to provide real-time pilgrim positioning, wayfinding, and safety services during Hajj and Umrah journeys. Specifically, the App accesses your location to:
- Provide real-time navigation and wayfinding guidance across the Sacred Sites (Mina, Muzdalifah, Arafat, the Grand Mosque, and surrounding areas).
- Enable indoor positioning within the Grand Mosque using Bluetooth Beacons.
- Display your current position on live maps for field support teams to assist you in case of emergency.
- Trigger geo-fence alerts when you deviate from predefined pilgrimage routes.
- Facilitate SOS emergency response by transmitting your precise location to support teams when you request help.
- Enable background location tracking so that your campaign leaders and field teams can locate you even when the App is not actively in use, ensuring your safety throughout the entire pilgrimage journey.
Background location access is necessary because the App must continuously track your position to provide safety monitoring, emergency response capability, and wayfinding services throughout the multi-day Hajj and Umrah journey, including during periods when you may not be actively interacting with the App.
b. Personal Information
When you register or use the App, we may collect your name, phone number, email address, nationality, passport or ID information (as linked through the Nusuk platform), and campaign or group affiliation.
c. Device Information
We collect device identifiers, device model, operating system version, app version, Bluetooth and connectivity data, and unique device tokens for push notifications.
d. Usage Data
We collect information about how you interact with the App, including pages and features accessed, session duration, navigation routes taken, and SOS requests made.
e. Communication Data
If you contact us through the App, Website, or email, we retain records of that correspondence.
f. Website Data
When you visit our Website, we may collect your IP address, browser type, pages visited, time spent on pages, and information provided through contact forms (name, email, phone number, company name).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- To provide real-time location tracking, wayfinding, and navigation services during Hajj and Umrah.
- To enable emergency SOS response and transmit your location to field support teams.
- To facilitate indoor positioning inside the Grand Mosque using Bluetooth Beacons.
- To monitor geo-fence boundaries and alert support teams if you deviate from your designated route.
- To allow your campaign supervisors and field teams to locate and assist you.
- To provide crowd density monitoring and flow management for the safety of all pilgrims.
- To deliver push notifications with ritual guidance, safety alerts, and navigation instructions.
- To improve our services, analyze usage patterns, and enhance the pilgrimage experience.
- To respond to your inquiries and provide customer support.
- To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal obligations.
4. Background Location Usage
The REFAD App collects location data in the background (when the App is closed or not in use) to ensure your safety throughout the entire Hajj and Umrah journey. This background access is required to:
- Continuously monitor your position so that support teams can locate you in an emergency at any time, day or night.
- Maintain geo-fence monitoring to detect route deviations promptly.
- Provide uninterrupted tracking across the multi-day pilgrimage stages (from arrival to farewell Tawaf).
You may disable background location access at any time through your device settings, but doing so will limit the App's ability to provide safety monitoring and emergency response when the App is not actively open.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your data with:
- Your designated campaign operator, group leader, or field support team for the purpose of pilgrim safety, support, and coordination.
- Regulatory and governmental authorities (such as the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques) as required for the operation and safety of Hajj and Umrah services.
- Trusted service providers who assist us in operating the App and delivering our services, subject to strict confidentiality agreements.
- Law enforcement or governmental agencies when required by applicable law or to protect the safety of pilgrims.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include data encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security assessments. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure.

Location data collected during a pilgrimage season is retained for a reasonable period after the season ends for safety follow-up and service improvement, and is then deleted or anonymized.
